This week marks the one-year anniversary since former President Jimmy Carter entered hospice care. However, his grandson insists that despite the challenges, Carter’s spirit remains unwavering.
Since entering hospice care last February, Carter has faced numerous health issues, including the passing of his wife Rosalynn in November and his own battles with brain cancer, liver cancer, a broken hip, and brain surgery.
Despite these hardships, Carter’s grandson provided an update on his condition, stating, “After a year in hospice, on a daily basis, we have no expectations for his body. But we know that his spirit is as strong as ever,” in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning.

The Carter family expressed their gratitude for the support received over the past year and stated that President Carter continues to be at home with his family. They also appreciated the discussions sparked by Carter’s decision to enter hospice care.
Remarkably, Carter is among the six percent of people who have lived more than a year after entering hospice care. His wife Rosalynn’s passing in November deeply affected him, as they shared a strong bond over their 77-year marriage.

Carter’s doctor, Dr. Michael Raines, expressed concern following Rosalynn’s death, noting the significant loss Carter experienced. He acknowledged the strong dependency between long-married couples and the impact of such a loss.
